Al Luplow

Al Luplow was an outfielder for the Mets in 1966 and 1967. He played in 152 games and hit .240 as a member of the team. Luplow had 10 home runs and 40 runs batted in during his time with the Mets.
Luplow joined the Mets after five seasons with the Cleveland Indians. In 1966, he played all three outfield positions and collected 84 hits. On July 4, Al had a single, a double, a home run and four RBIs in the Mets' 8-1 win over the Phillies in the second game of a doubleheader at Philadelphia. Against the Phillies three days later, he hit a run-scoring double to put the Mets ahead in the top of the ninth inning for an eventual 9-6 victory. Luplow also hit the first of three Met homers in a 3-2 win at San Francisco on July 20.
Twice during the '66 season, Luplow had a productive game in a losing effort. On August 10, he had four singles and two runs scored in a 10-4 Mets loss to the Pirates at Pittsburgh. Al also hit two home runs in the Mets' 6-4 defeat to the Giants at San Francisco on September 17.
Luplow had 23 hits for 33 total bases with the Mets in 1967. He scored 11 runs and had 9 RBIs while with the team during the year. At Chicago on April 25, Al drove in the winning run with a 10th inning single for a 2-1 Mets win over the Cubs. He hit three singles and a scored a run in the Mets' 3-2 loss at Cincinnati on April 30. Against the Braves at Shea Stadium on May 27, Luplow hit a game-winning, two-run single in the seventh inning for a 4-3 Mets victory. In the first game of a doubleheader the next day, he scored four runs in the Mets' 6-3 win over Atlanta. Al also hit a game-tying sacrifice fly in the Mets' eventual 4-3 win over the Cubs in 10 innings in the first game of a doubleheader at Shea on June 18.
On June 21, 1967, Luplow was sold by the Mets to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Al played in 55 games for the Pirates over the rest of the '67 season to end his career.
