Alberto Castillo was a catcher for the Mets from 1995 to 1998. He appeared in 92 games with the team. Castillo had 14 runs batted in and 47 total bases as a Met.

Castillo collected seven hits in brief stints with the Mets in 1995 and 1996. He singled for his first major league hit and scored two runs in the Mets’ 8-0 win over the Padres at Shea Stadium on May 30, 1995. Alberto also had two singles and a run scored in a 3-1 Mets win over the Marlins at Shea on September 11, 1996.

In 1997, Castillo had 59 at bats with the Mets. He drove in seven runs during the season. At Shea on June 1, Alberto hit a sacrifice fly for his first major league RBI in an 8-5 Mets victory over the Phillies. He had a two-run single in a 7-6 Mets loss to the Braves on September 26 at Shea. The next day, Castillo drove in the winning run with a double in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Mets a 2-1 triumph over the Braves.

Alberto had 17 hits, including two home runs, for the Mets in 1998. In the season opener on March 31, he singled with the bases loaded in the 14th inning for a 1-0 Mets victory over the Phillies at Shea. Castillo hit his first major league homer in a 4-1 Mets win at San Francisco on May 16. Against the Reds at Shea on May 19, he drove in the Mets’ first two runs with a double to propel the team to a 7-3 win. Alberto also singled and homered in a 9-2 Mets win at Boston on June 5.

Castillo left the Mets for free agency after the ’98 season. He played for the Cardinals in 1999 and for the Blue Jays in 2000 and 2001. Alberto also played for five other major league teams until the end of his career in 2007.
