Alex Trevino was a catcher for the Mets from 1978 to 1981 and in 1990. He batted .262 and scored 70 runs in 256 games played with the team. Trevino had 69 runs batted in as a member of the Mets.

Trevino started his major league career with 6 games in 1978. He got his first major league hit with a single at Chicago on September 29. The next day, Alex got two singles and scored a run. The Mets lost both of these games to the Cubs.

In 1979, Trevino got 56 hits for 69 total bases in his first full major league season. For the year, he had a .271 batting average with 20 RBIs. On April 7, Alex drove in his first major league run with a pinch-hit single in the Mets’ 9-4 win over the Cubs at Wrigley Field. He got two singles and a triple in a 6-4 Mets loss at San Francisco on May 5. Against the Reds at Shea Stadium on June 11, Trevino hit a two-run double in the Mets’ 3-2 victory. He had three RBIs and four runs scored in an 18-5 Mets win at Atlanta on August 14. Alex also drove in the winning run with a ninth-inning single for a 2-1 Mets win over the Braves on August 27 in the completion of a suspended game at Shea.

Alex played in 106 games for the Mets in 1980. He hit .256 with 11 doubles, 2 triples and 37 RBIs. At Philadelphia on June 28, Trevino got a game-tying, two-run single in the eighth inning of a 5-4 Mets win that completed a doubleheader sweep. Against the Astros at Shea on August 2, he hit a game-winning double in the eighth in the Mets’ 5-3 victory. Alex drove in the winning runs with a two-run single in a 3-1 Mets win at Pittsburgh on August 12. He also had a single, two doubles and two RBIs in the Mets’ 5-3 loss to the Expos in 11 innings at Shea on September 16.

Trevino batted .262 in the strike-shortened 1981 season. He played in 56 games and scored 17 runs for the year. Alex had two singles and an RBI in the Mets’ 6-2 win over the Padres at Shea on May 2. He had a run-scoring single during a three-run 10th inning in a 7-4 Mets win at Chicago on August 12. At Shea on August 27, Trevino singled to start a two-run rally in the eighth inning that produced a 3-2 Mets win over the Astros.

On February 10, 1982, Trevino was sent to the Reds in a trade that brought George Foster to the Mets. He played for five teams in the National League West Division (all except the Padres) over the rest of the ‘80s. In 1990, Alex returned to the Mets and got three hits in nine games. He finished the ’90 season with the Reds to conclude his career.
