Alvaro Espinoza was an infielder for the Mets in 1996. He played in 48 games with the team. Espinoza batted .306 with four homers and 16 runs batted in as a Met.

Espinoza came to the Mets in a trade with the Indians during the ’96 season. At Chicago on August 5, he singled, doubled and homered in a 7-3 Mets loss to the Cubs. Alvaro singled three times and scored two runs in a 9-6 Mets defeat at Florida on August 10. He had two singles and a double in the Mets’ 8-5 win over the Cubs on August 14 at Shea Stadium. Espinoza had a pair of doubles and a run scored in a 12-11 Mets loss at San Francisco on August 21. He drove in all the Mets’ runs with a single and a double in the team’s 6-4 loss to the Giants at Shea on August 30. One day later, Alvaro homered in a 7-2 Mets win over the Giants at Shea.

In 1997, Espinoza played in 33 games with the Mariners to conclude his 12-season major league career. He later became a minor league coach, manager and roving instructor.
