Andy Tomberlin

Andy Tomberlin was an outfielder for the Mets in 1996 and 1997. He played in 69 games with the team. Tomberlin had 19 hits for 32 total bases as a Met.
Tomberlin played three seasons in the major leagues before joining the Mets in ’96. At Shea Stadium on June 20, he singled and homered in a 5-3 Mets loss to the Reds. Andy had a run-scoring single in the Mets’ 7-5 win over the Phillies at Shea on July 15. He hit a three-run double in an 11-10 Mets loss in the second game of a doubleheader at Colorado on July 23. Tomberlin got a game-tying double and scored the winning run in the Mets’ 5-4 victory over the Pirates in a doubleheader opener on July 30 at Shea. He hit a home run in a 15-10 Mets defeat to the San Diego Padres at Monterrey, Mexico on August 16. Andy also hit a game-tying RBI double and scored the winning run in the tenth inning for a 6-5 Mets triumph over the Giants on September 1 at Shea.
In ’97, Tomberlin played in six games before a neck injury sidelined him for the rest of the year. He had two singles in seven at bats during the season. Working his way back to health, Andy played in eight games in the Mets’ minor league system.
Tomberlin played in 32 games with the Detroit Tigers in 1998. He returned to the Mets’ organization the next year and played in 106 minor league games. Andy concluded his career with the Cleveland Indians’ AAA-level team in Buffalo in 2000.
