Anthony Young
From The Met Wiki
Anthony Young was a pitcher for the Mets from 1991 to 1993. He appeared in 101 games as a starter and a reliever. Young recorded five wins and 146 strikeouts as a Met.
In ’91, Young had 49 and one-third innings pitched. He posted a 3.10 earned run average for the season. At Shea Stadium on September 3, Anthony pitched seven innings and got his first major league win in the Mets’ 6-1 victory over the Astros. He also had six innings pitched for the win in a 6-3 Mets triumph at Chicago on September 12.
Young became the Mets’ primary reliever in 1992. He led the team with 15 saves during the year. As a starter on April 9, Anthony had a complete game win in the Mets’ 7-1 victory at St. Louis. He pitched three and one-third innings of relief for the win in an 11-6 Mets triumph at Montreal on April 19. Young pitched a scoreless 12th inning for his first save in a 6-4 Mets win at Chicago on July 1. He hurled a perfect bottom of the ninth for a save in a 7-6 Mets victory at Houston on July 10. Anthony retired the side in order in the ninth inning for a save in the Mets’ 4-3 win over the Reds in the first game of a doubleheader on August 28 at Shea. In the ninth inning at Chicago on September 14, he entered with two runners on base and retired three straight Cubs batters for the save, finishing off a 10-8 Mets win.
The ’93 season was a difficult one for Young. He had a 1-16 won-lost record in 39 games pitched. During the year, Anthony set a major league pitching record with 27 consecutive losses (started the previous season.) This unfortunate streak came to an end on July 28, when Young chalked up the win in a 5-4 Mets victory over the Marlins at Shea. Anthony also recorded three saves in ’93, the last of which came in the Mets’ 10-8 win over the Pirates in the second game of a twinbill at Shea on August 7.
Young pitched for the Cubs in 1994 and 1995. He concluded his major league career with the Astros in 1996.
