1971: The Mets defeat the Expos, 4-2, on Opening Day at Shea Stadium. The game ends after five innings due to snow.

1972: The Mets trade Ken Singleton, Mike Jorgensen and Tim Foli to the Expos for Rusty Staub.

1973: The Mets win on Opening Day for the fourth straight year with a 3-0 victory over the Phillies at Shea Stadium. Cleon Jones drives in all the Mets' runs with two homers.

1974: The Phillies defeat the Mets, 5-4, on Opening Day at Philadelphia. It is the Mets first season-opening loss in five years and their only one of the 1970s.

1984: The Mets record their 1500th regular season win with an 8-1 victory over the Astros at Houston.

1992: In the season opener, Bobby Bonilla hit two home runs in his first game as a Met. His second homer comes in the 10th inning to give the Mets a 4-2 win over the Cardinals in St. Louis.

2004: The Mets defeat the Braves, 7-2, in the season opener in Atlanta. Kazuo Matsui gets three hits, including a home run in his first major league at bat.
