Angel Pagan was drafted by the Mets in 1999 in the 4th round, he spent 7 seasons in the minors before the Cubs purchased him.
He was traded back to the Mets in 2008 on January 5. He was one of the Mets few bright spots in 2009, playing 88 games, mostly while Carlos Beltran was injured. His season was marred by a few memorable mental errors, but despite them his hitting, defense, and baserunning all made him a valuable player in 2009.
He may be the Mets starting center fielder while Beltran recovers from his mid offseason surgery. He is competing with Gary Matthews Jr. for that spot. Jerry Manuel has implied that the spot belongs to Pagan. On May 19,2010,R.A.Dickey started for the Mets, and pagan as he hit a inside the park homerun and made a triple play.
