Fernando (also known as F-Mart) was considered the Mets' top prospect since signing with the Mets at age 16, but many injuries held him back through the years.

In 2008 he played in the Futures Game.

When Daniel Murphy was banished from the Mets' outfield and most of the Mets' other outfielders suffered injuries, Martinez got the call. All indications are that it was premature. Though he's playing well defensively, in his first 77 AB's he hit just .169.

He made his major league debut on May 26, 2009.

He hit his first major league homer on June 30, 2009 against the Milwaukee Brewers in a 6-3 loss. He is right now with Buffalo.
